THIS IS NOT (an act of love and resistance)
2022
THIS IS NOT (an act of love & resistance) is a musical and choreographic piece for nine performers, including four brass instrument musicians and five dancers.
Together, they invoke different imaginations around air, through dance, music and the rhythm of speech.
How do we generate energy through this element and what does it mean to breathe together today?
If air were a harbinger of things to come, what imaginations and representations of the future would result from it?
Here, air is imagined as a container of traces and resonances, an element of interdependence of bodies, a canvas to create a choreographic mesh.
The traces that sounds and movements leave in the air become material to compose multiple fictions. THIS IS NOT (an act of love & resistance) is a cyclical piece built with common and singular trajectories, correspondences, breaks and polyrhythms.
In this piece the bodies pulsate, insist and repeat like the act of breathing itself.
The group perseveres and creates invisible links through the air with the plastic, luminous and sound environment. The latter consists of a hybrid music composed of acoustic sounds inspired by Brass Bands and electronic atmospheres.
Here, we become workers of the air, we mobilize it in the same way that it mobilizes us, we create invisible currents, whirlpools and falls.
We become extensions of the other, projections of ourselves.
We become archaic futures.

In his book Breath, James Nestor uses the term “POUMONAUTES” to describe people from different eras and cultures who, like him, were fascinated by everything to do with breathing.
